Mama and Papa had been watching the weather all day and a storm was moving in. We debating between going back to McCook and staying in a hotel, camping at Medicine Creek, or taking the extreme route and driving over to Hastings. Our thoughts of staying in McCook seemed the easiest, but upon checking with the hotel, there was only a room with 1 king size bed. The brewing storm ruled out camping. So we were left with driving to Uncle Buh's house in Hastings. He was out of town for the weekend, but he said that we could stay at his place. We drove there and arrived at about 7 o'clock. Papa opened the house for us and came out smiling. "You girls are in for a shock..."
Uncle Buh has a split level house, so when we went inside, we went in through the basement. The first thing you notice is that he has a number of mounted animals down there. Three deer and an antelope watch every move you make. But on the lighter side, he has a Foosball table! Bernadette and Clare played with the table while Papa and Mama bathed the younger girls. All the while Lissie and Ella were not digging the deer on the walls. We didn't even think to take pictures of the place or we would have posted them.
Just before bedding down for the night, Lissie asked Papa, "Why does Uncle Buh have a museum in his basement?" We all shared a laugh over this and we will talk about Uncle Buh's museum for sometime to come.
We stayed the night in Hastings, caught an early Mass on Sunday morning and we were all surprisingly well rested and ready to go the next day.
